March 17

Everyone
work on diction – bigger mouths
Can the people on right stage bring all the water devices used throughout the show and put them by the washing machine at the end of the show?  Pitchers, buckets, etc.
Scene – save some for me. Town does not enter CS.  They are across the back. The last scene the town is on stage is the hand prints on the door.  During this scene – those on the right side of the door – move URS to be on that side of the stage.  Those on the left side – exit left.  This may mean that others move Moises and Belen’s house. We will rehearse this.
Stay in character
Don’t say lines upstage.
Work on emotion in lines.
STEP ON LINES
Don’t hit Breck.
Find more emotion in lines.  Latin people are bigger than life. On stage, that should be bigger.
DO NOT ANTICIPATE LINES.  Ask Kenna which actor did this.
Lights on stage
Light down more on Ramzi scene
Blue lights fade up on Belen as the ghost person.
Lights booth
Amber first Monica scene.
Music
electricity
Town
During the Ramzi scene – your eyeballs are moving all over the place.  Keep them still or down.
Women with scarves on head during crossing scene.
Dancing – bigger and more enthusiastic.  Lines in sync with music.
STEP ON LINES
Lights - both
Time lights at the beginning of the show. They must both begin at the same time – count off -1,2,3
Alamar
Diction and louder – do you think it’s funny
Instructions – your responsibility
Of daily battle – yearning happy
Eugenio
Don’t speak behind someone – you said except Moises behind Kate.
What the war cost Moises – speak to the town.
Navel line bigger about anyone would give their soul to heal.  THIS IS YOUR BREAKING POINT
Thank goodness we have Moises – I am the light
Bigger – as I lay my hand on the latch. Scared, embarrassed, disillusioned.
Look at lines boils and shriveling and fizzling.
Knocking scene – you are blocking Luis – Kenna was sitting where the right stage judge would be sitting.  It may not be fixable.
Monica and Luis
Enjoy each other more.  Laugh more – giggle more so that it is a stark contrast to the rest of the scenes.
Do not throw the chair.
Work on sexiness
Eugenio and Moises
Friendship was flat
Luis
Papers and tape are your responsibility
HEAD UP – entitled
Speak more to CS.
Chismosa line was good.
HEAD UP
Do not throw the chair.
Head up
San Isidro?  More broken in this scene.
You left us no choice – to the audience – all your lines are mainly profile here – so fix it.  Also, don’t slap so much.  It weakens your character.
More downstage center – head up – I need your help.
Town and Belen
Work on this scene Monday – carve a path so that Belen can hold up hands bouncing from one to another – she doesn’t need to touch Eugenio.
Hannah
La plaza line - diction
Kate
Angry at the soldados – hand in a striking gesture
Don’t put water back in the buckets.
Belen
Veil?
Rehearse this scene tomorrow.
Enter on sell for scrap.
It’s been years – happy – you’ve forgotten everything that has happened.
As a ghost, you are not confident enough.  You are not sad.  Remember your character is feisty. You are not sad
Stephen
Diction on exhausts me to watch.
Don’t back up in the back.
Eli
People noises as Belen is shocked – mixed elation and curiosity when she says why – then DEVASTATED as they take her away – BIGGER ON WHY – a guttural cry.
Head up – make him ask me.
Watch higher register.
Be busy washing when Luis is yelling
Don’t stoop over Luis when begging.
Monica
More upset about your daughter.   When you come home the last time, can you do stage business – packing- taking clothing off the line as  you are speaking to Luis – you are too upset to deal with him then crazy snot crying about being a dutiful soldier’s wife…
Watch losing accent
Breck
Good job = hand on priest
Moises & Belen
Build relationship

  1. With all of the changes it looks amazing! There are some parts where they can be worked on but this is the time to fix anything! The ending looks good but like I said anything can be fixed at this point in time. Keep up the great work!!

  2. I think we are in a good place, but we have to continually be more creative and come up with new ideas, big or small. We can't just be satisfied with how the show looks or how are characters are. I will continue to work on building up emotions to make my character stronger. If anyone can teach me how to be sexy that would be great because your girl has no idea. I also need to work on being bigger because I know I don't do the movements like the town, but every character needs to be big in their actions. The town is doing great, but we have to remember to play it up and be larger than life to separate ourselves from the other schools.

  3. I really liked the rehearsal. I think that the town is doing a great job with living their life even when no one has a part in that scene. I think that y'all have to watch out not to block people with lines a little more and also please try not to block Colin behind the scrim.

  4. I think we need to find our energy back. I feel like we lost our emotions that we used throughout the play. With the new changes I believe if we focus and perfect those scenes it will spread out in the play.

  5. I think the town can improve by walking through to be at the back of the stage painting pictures. I did town I think you could’ve talked to play more by paining beautiful stage pictures to move the play along. Let’s have more moments in transitions, we have 5 mins. What is really going to separate us is our ensemble. We need to do the most with the lines we are givin. Speak each one with passion. Latinas are extremely passionate about everything, and speak with arms. Let’s incorporate that. Also with our dancing let’s stomp more, and maybe get some clappers, to make it more Latin. It’s going great so far, but now let’s add some spice to it! We got this guys, any ideas to light it up, please come forward!

  6. I think the changes we’ve made will look very good & they also help the show seem fresh instead of routine. We definitely need to run through it more times to get the swing of things. Last night was very flat but hopefully we get back in the groove and become these characters. The town needs to work on not always entering from the same side of the stage & grouped up. overall, i think the show feels new and fresh and (hopefully) will bring much more emotion than before.

  7. Ok last night was pretty flat but I know we have the potential to bring some more life. First, the town needs to stop exiting and entering from the left stage every scene, it’s getting too crowded over there. We cannot be ok with “it was fine before” or “it’s easier that way” easiest isn’t always the best and shows that don’t evolve don’t win. The town needs to decide if we aren’t leaving the stage or staying the back. We need to commit with whatever we decide to do. Personally, I think we should just stay in the back and because it may fix some of our entering and exiting issues. We also need to block the last scene and decide what we want to do. WE CANNOT BE SATISFIED WITH ANYTHING. If we aren’t improving there is no point. There is something to be gained every moment we are on stage. Find what it is and honor it. Keep the ideas flowing.

  8. Overall yesterday we sounded dead. It’s probably just a mix of being tired and not doing anything all spring break. So energy needs to be picked up for sure. Moises and Eugenios relationship needs to start off like best friends and by the end they should hate each other. Same with Monica and Luis. Even though we have time to spare the town needs to really focus on stepping on lines and keeping their diction. Moises and Belen’s relationship needs to be stronger. Stay confident. We have a great play and an even better chance to advance to the next competition.

  9. We are far along in the process but this part of our journey is consistent with our involvement. A mad respect comes with the potential we have, and to fully immerse our peoples in our talent is the only way we advance. We must find nothing but our character on all stages. Everything flows together in the way of anatomy. We should be one with our character and our character should be placed upon us. Our characters accents adjustments and all will be spontanious and intrenched in our play and being as long as we stay on stage and live on stage. Metaphorically we must be should be the rocks in the river a constant flow of scenery and life should move along us and the play will flow with anxiety and spontaneity.

  10. The town needs to continue to evaluate how we say our lines. It is common in theatre for a chorus to begin to sound alike since we hear each others’ lines so frequently. We have to really work to make sure each like has a different tone, pace, ect. so we don’t all become the same. Also, I think our transition into the first clinic scene could be smoother. We take a little bit too much time to all get out to our spots to say our lines, but if we flow out a bit faster it would make that transition between scenes run cleaner.

  11. I believe we are doing a great job, however what we have now can be so much more powerful. We have such a beautiful show and story to work with and we need to give it justice. The town needs to build every emotion in each line and walk with a purpose. I really like the changes we have made And I think it’s going to benefit us. But we have a week to perfect it And I truly believe we can do it. we all needs to be louder and BIGGER. And our freezes need to be PERFECT! No more shaking!! I know we can perform a beautiful and powerful story for the judges. To do that, we need to stay committed to our character and to perfecting this show. Let’s all stay focus on the little time we have to do that.

  12. I think we have a great path ahead of us, and great potential for all of our abilities. Each and everyone of us is a different person and we all bring different aspects to the table. We need to use this to our advantage and integrate this into our show. Creating a town that looks realistic takes time and individuality. We need to keep pushing to get more out of our characters and changing things up. This part of the season is where our show really starts to grow and flourish. We have so much room to improve and I think creating completely different characters will help that.

  13. The town needs to work on not looking like robots in the back of the stage. We need to act like normal people instead of standing still and not making contact with anybody. We’re doing really good though despite the sudden changes.❤️

  14. I think that the sound needs to work on making the decrease and increase in music at the beginning of the play more smooth. The town also needs to work with the sound and read there lines smoothly imbetween the decrease and increase of sound

    ReplyDelete
  15. Everyone needs to be loud especially when music is playing!!! Y’all are all doing really great but never be satisfied!

    ReplyDelete
  16. During the dancing scene you guys need to be louder. Even with the music turned down it can still be hard to hear you. Your movements need to all be wild and stylized even if one person is off it could ruin the flow of the scene.

    ReplyDelete
  17. All of y’all are working hard and doing great but there are still some things to work on. In the beginning scene with the music, either the music needs to quieter or the town needs to be a lot louder. Cooper- if you’re going to be a fighter then we have to see that progressively through the play. Whether that’s being passive aggressive or being physically aggressive, we need to see the fighter in you. Eli- when Eugenio says “Belen” at the end of the play, you blow up at him and become super protective and possessive of her. I personally don’t see that protectiveness any time before. If that’s how you’re going to play that scene at the end, you need to show that protectiveness throughout the rest of the play. Everyone needs to try to incorporate new things into their character every once in a while to make things new and keep things fresh. Keep up the good work and I know we’ll do amazing.

  18. the town Is doing great! make sure to keep the energy, because we can’t have a stale show. keep everything fresh and new. it can’t look staged

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think everyone has to have more energy when we practice, including me. We know we perform better at contest obviously but we’re gonna start getting to the point where the people we compete against are actually capable of beating us if we don’t take things seriously. I still think our accents aren’t being said clear enough for the audience to understand. Still over do all movements and don’t act normal. It’s magical realism. It’s not supposed to look normally real. Keep praying and we’re gonna do great!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think we still need to work on accents (me included) as well as focusing more and having more energy at rehearsals. We are at the point where anyone has the ability to beat us so we need to buckle down and pay attention more. As well as coming up with new ideas big or small

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think we need to work on our timing for the opening. We all need to know where our lines fit in the dancing scene. We also need to know where and when to be on stage at any given time.
